Overview
Rama Lake is a pristine high-altitude alpine lake nestled in Rama Valley, approximately 20 km from Astore town in Gilgit-Baltistan. Situated at around 3,500 metres, the lake sits on a natural plateau surrounded by emerald meadows, dense conifer forests, and with the awe-inspiring south face of Nanga Parbat (8,126 m) — the world's ninth-highest mountain — looming dramatically as the backdrop.
Itinerary (2-Day Rama Lake Trip)
Depart Gilgit, drive south through Jaglot and Astor town. Continue 20 km up the Rama Valley road to the PTDC rest house and campsite. Afternoon hike to the lake (30–45 min). Sunset with Nanga Parbat glowing. Overnight at rest house or camp.
Morning walk through Rama Meadows — wildflowers in bloom (June–July). Photography session with Nanga Parbat and lake reflection. After breakfast, optional trek further up to higher meadows. Return to Gilgit by afternoon.
